Prayers for the sick or elderly
In Time of Illness Heavenly Father, thank you for the countless gifts that come from your hand, especially the grace we receive through your Son, which brings the forgiveness of sins. Comfort my heart and reassure me that all things for my salvation are complete because of Jesus' life, death and resurrection. Let that truth bring stillness to my soul and strength to my heart. You, O Lord are the Great Physician and Creator of life; you designed us and set us apart before we were born. So we humbly pray in your great mercy that you would extend your healing hand to ease the suffering before us. You alone have the power to heal and restore and we trust your loving care and almighty wisdom. Father, bring comfort, ease the pain, heal the wounds and restore health and strength. All these things will bring you glory, praise and our heartfelt gratitude. We ask this according to your will in the name of Jesus, Amen.
For the Elderly Lord God, you are the one who grants us the days of our lives and fills them with your loving care. We praise you for the many years and countless blessings that you have given. Yet Lord, as the many days and years have passed, we grow weary and long to be in your presence. Strengthen us with the reminder that our days are in your hands and our purpose in this life comes from you. When things seem tiring help us focus our eyes on You, to trust your timing and plans. Fill our minds and hearts with thankful thoughts, pleasant memories and quiet contentment. Your grace and the forgiveness of sins are blessings that alone are enough to sustain us. Let all that Jesus has done be the first thought of the morning, the foundation of the day and the comfort each evening. Thank you Lord, for the privilege of laying our hearts and concerns in your hands and for your promises that comfort and strengthen us each day. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
For All Who Suffer (from "God Our Refuge" used with permission) O Lord Jesus Christ, you suffered for us and endured even the agony of the cross. Draw near to your suffering servant(s), [name] during this time of bodily pain and trouble of mind. During this difficult time, grant him/her safe haven in the shelter of your love. Give them courage to endure and confidence that you will cause even this hardship to work for their spiritual and eternal good. Keep our eyes focused on that glorious kingdom which you established for all who take refuge in your promises. Hear the pleas of your children. Amen. Hymn Verses that can be used as prayers
